Palate operates inside the National Museum of Wildlife Art on East Gros Ventre Butte, about 1.2 miles north of downtown Jackson, and its whole setting is built around that pairing — the restaurant looks out over the National Elk Refuge, and the museum's own copy encourages guests to linger over a meal and then wander the galleries afterward, or vice versa. It's the sister restaurant to Gather, the restaurant's downtown Jackson location, so there's shared ownership and presumably some kitchen overlap between the two. The food is described as creative, built on seasonal, sustainable, and local ingredients, and the standout dish confirmed on the restaurant's own site is an Idaho trout fish and chips — beer-battered Idaho rainbow trout with malted onions, tartar sauce, lemon, and crispy fish skin, which is a fairly specific, considered plate for what could easily be a generic museum café. The drinks list runs to local beers, wine, and canned cocktails, keeping things casual. There's a patio for outdoor seating when weather allows. Palate runs seasonal live music programming too: starting May 27th, the restaurant hosts live music every Wednesday and Friday from noon to 2pm, running through September, timed to overlap with lunch service. Hours are daily, 11am to 2:30pm, though the site flags that as subject to change, which is worth noting given how tightly the live-music programming and lunch service overlap. Reservations are available through the restaurant's own booking system, and groups of 11 or more are routed to a separate group inquiry form rather than standard booking.
